A plane crashed on a skydiving excursion in Hawaii. The nine people on board died

A small plane crashed on a skydiving excursion on Oahu, Hawaii, and burst into flames, killing all nine people aboard, state officials said.

The twin-engine King Air plane crashed Friday night near the Dillingham airfield with no apparent survivors, tweeted the Hawaii Department of Transportation.

The plane was on a skydiving excursion when it crashed, said the head of the Honolulu Fire Department, Manuel P. Neves.

When the firemen arrived, the plane was engulfed in flames and they worked to extinguish them. The witnesses saw the plane approaching before falling on a fence, away from the runway, Neves said.

“This is the most tragic aviation incident we’ve had. We had some (cases of) Army helicopters, but this is a civilian plane that crashed and with so many people on board, “said Neves to KGMB, a CNN affiliate.

The names of the passengers have not been revealed. Some members of the families were at the airfield when the plane fell, Neves said.

“I am closely following the tragic developments of Dillingham Airfield tonight. At this time our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims, “wrote the Mayor of Honolulu, Kirk Caldwell.

The Federal Aviation Administration will take over the investigation.
