Vijay Shankar is an Indian cricketer who plays for the Indian cricket team and Tamil Nadu. He is an all-rounder who bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace. In the Indian Premier League, he played one match for the Chennai Super Kings in 2014 and four for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017 and 2018. In April 2019, he was named in India’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar was picked as the no 4 batsmen for World Cup a decision which gave birth to the unending debate on Ambati Rayudu or Rishabh Pant were more suited for the job. But the selection committee headed by MSK Prasad had his own reasons which they stuck with.

Vijay Shankar, however, had a disappointing campaign in the recently concluded Indian premier league where he played for Sun Risers Hyderabad, he scored 219 runs in 14 matches and took only a solitaire wicket as the utilized bowler. Whereas Pant scored 488 runs in 16 games for Delhi Capitals with a few match-defining knocks which again bought Pant vs Shankar debate on the foray.

But for Shankar criticism is not something to be bogged down by and it is the only faith of the team management which counts and he recalled how the team management trusted him for New Zealand T20I’s despite the horror which unfolded the Nidahas Trophy in Bangladesh – the one in which he scored a 19-ball 17 in India’s chase.

I had a decent run when I batted at NO 3 in the T20 series in New Zealand and the most important thing is the team has shown the interest and trust on me and believes me that I can do the job. I am enjoying myself and don’t put any pressure on myself. I like to read the situation and play according to that situation. Ill give importance to the work ethics and there is no short cut he said.

He further went on to say that senior players in the Indian team have been backing him and have asked him to just keep things as simple as possible and not to stress over anything. I have interacted with Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni Bhai, and Rohit to help me to improve as a cricketer and they have told me that I am doing my job and focus on the things should be kept simple Vijay added.
